Poll results: Cookie is your favourite

Last week QPR MAD asked YOU to answer our exclusive poll. "Who would you most like to see join Rangers this summer?"

Five players who have been linked with the club where listed: Lee Cook, Barry Hayles, Micah Hyde, Robbie Stockdale and Jody Morris.

The results were clear. Most Rangers fans want to see Lee Cook join the club.

Although left midfield isn’t really the biggest concern in the team; Ian Holloway has lined up Cookie for months now as his main priority in the summer. Things are looking good at the moment of writing as Cook IS in negotiations with the club over signing from Watford.

Despite widespread reports that the deal is done and dusted or the player has rejected a deal at Loftus Road, QPR MAD has been reliably informed this is not the case.

A source close to Cook’s family suggests that it is the fee that is the main stumbling block in completing the transfer. Cook has set his heart on joining his boyhood heroes and the Rangers board and the player’s agent have struck a deal. In the meantime Watford boss Ray Lewington still wants to keep Cook at Vicarage Road. He is bombarded the players with phone calls and pleas to sign a new deal at Watford. With the two clubs still at loggerheads over a fee it looks increasingly likely that it will be set by a tribunal.

A transfer fee must be paid despite Cookie being out of contract, he is under 24 years of age and the rules state a transfer fee to cover compensation costs must be paid.

The fee is likely to be in region of £100,000-200,000 but Watford are holding out for more than what is realistic. It is hoped that the tribunal will bring a fair price for a talented youngster who began his career at non-league Aylesbury Town.

Second in the poll was ex-Fulham striker Barry Hayles. Despite Rangers having the "fab four" up front as striking options, Ollie has made no secret of his desire to strengthen all areas of the team. That includes the frontline and Hayles has been released by Fulham this summer and is available on a Bosman free transfer. Ollie knows Hayles well since their time together at Bristol Rovers and believes he is the right man to boost his striking options. Leicester and Leeds are also interested in his signature.

Elsewhere Micah Hyde just pipped Robbie Stockdale and Jody Morris for third. The trio all play in positions which are regarded as the most important to be strengthened this summer. The defence looks relatively weak for 1st division football following Terrell Forbes, Steve Palmer and Clarke Carlisle’s departures. Meanwhile in midfield Matthew Rose and Richard Johnson are yet to sign new contracts and Marc Bircham is still looking for a new midfield partner.

Many names have been linked with moves to Rangers this season but as yet no new faces have arrived. Lee Cook (the fans favourite) looks likely to be the first but we are going to need more than one new player if we want to succeed next season in the Coca-Cola Championship.

This week’s pole is already underway. It is asking YOU the supporters whether David Davies’ departure was good for the club. We will review your results as soon as the votes have been counted. Keep voting to make your voice heard.
