Paul Furlong's last-gasp strike ensured Rangers a point today (Bank Holiday Monday) at Oakwell against a well-organised Barnsley side and after defeating Gimsby 3-0 on Saturday 4 points from a possible 6 over the Easter period would surely be exactly what the R's troop would have wanted.
On looking at the table at first glance it looks good. 4 points clear of Bristol City in third and now only 5 behind Plymouth who have already surely taken the title. Swindon are 7 points behind us and we have a far superior goal-difference over Bristol and Swindon.
Bristol host Plymouth tomorrow and R's fans must be hoping for anything BUT a Bristol win. We will give Plymouth the title if it means us being promoted automatically. If Bristol do win it leaves them a point behind us with 4 games to play. They have a fairly tough run-in, next week they visit Luton who are gunning for a playoff place and the goal-difference is another point advantage for Rangers.
In theory we should win our home games. Stockport are in good form but we should stil take all three points- anything else would be a bitter disappointment. Then there is the trip to the West Country. I went there last season to see us win 1-0, Richard Pacquette scoring. We were excelent that day and i'd love us to go there and do the same but with Clarke and Danny both possibly missing the game i wouln't be to optimistic considering there aireal danger.
We took them to pieces earlier this season in the league 3-0 which will make them all the more determined and a possible league title to play for.
If we continue to pick up points every R's fan surely must believe it is our year, despite defeat at Bristol. Two wins from Stockport and Plymouth Argyle and we will be talking about a possible first place finish but we can only be too carefull about slipping up and ending in the playoff spots- the place we don't want to end up in.
Olly must continully remind his players of the heartache we felt when losing to Cardiff and use it as a motivation.
Returns for Clarke Carlisle, Terrell Forbes, Gino Padula and Martin Rowlands will strengthen the push, suspensions to Arthur Gnohere and Marcus Bean don't help though and the squad must be on their toes for any more permitations occuring.
Paul Furlong and Jamie Cureton look quite impressive, Furs with 4 goals in 2 games now. Jamie has now got some match practice under his belt. Gareth Ainsworth looks threatening after his return from injury.
Things bode well, let's hope it stays rosie and Plymouth and Luton do us a favour against Bristol this week. My personal favourite would be a draw with Plmyouth and Bristol, Luton to beat Bristol and us to beat Stockport and Plymouth and take the title and the final day.
One step at a time though and promotion whether first or second is the first priorty. Make your own assumptions. U R'S
