"Cookie" rated as "The most exciting winger the Hornets have had since Glyn Hodges trod the left flank towards the end of the 1980's" has given his word to sign when he return from holiday in Cyprus.
The R’s reached an agreement with the player before he set off to the Mediterranean but the deal was held up because of problems sorting out a compensation package with the Hornets.
Earlier this week Watford chairman Graham Simpson said that Cook’s agent rang to confirm that "Cookie" has rejected the new offer from the Vicarage Road club.
"We received two calls this week: one from Cook's agent turning down the contract offer and another from QPR enquiring about a compensation fee.
"I told them to make us an offer. We rate Cookie highly. He is blossoming and is a flair player. We are not prepared to let him go cheaply. I am prepared to go to tribunal over this," said Simpson this week.
Cook is essentially a free agent but if he were to sign for Rangers, Watford would be entitled to a compensation fee, determined by a tribunal if the clubs do not agree, as is usually the case.
After an offer earlier this season was turned down by Watford, Rangers moved to sign Kevin McLeod for £250,000. McLeod has since disappointed with his ratio of 3 goals in 38 outings this season. The 21-year-old Cook scored seven in a similar number of games in a higher division, so Watford will expect a significant amount of money.
Watford, knowing that Cook and his family are devoted QPR fans, have feared this scenario, but tried their best to entice the player with an offer, which is believed to constitute a 50 per cent increase over a two-year deal.
However the news coming from Cook’s family is that Lee will sign when returning putting an end to speculation regarding his future.
A previous story concerning Cook and a move to Crystal Palace was found to be a hoax by Hornets fans looking to unsettle Rangers and there fans.
