French central defender Arthur Gnohere has joined Rangers on a month’s loan from first division Burnley.
The 24-year-old goes straight into Ian Holloway’s squad for Saturday’s game away at Colchester United (3pm).
Gnohere will provide defensive cover for Clarke Carlisle who will be absent from the side for four weeks and with Matthew Rose still injured and the defence looking slim, Holloway was on the look-out to strengthen. Gnohere’s experience will be vital and may also allow reliable captain Steve Palmer to revert to central midfield should he wish to.
Gnohere joined Burnley from French side Caen in August 2001 and has made 80 appearances for the Turf Moor outfit including four this season. He has also notched up five goals in England.
Mainly being used as a substitute this term Burnley boss told the club’s website, its a good move for all parties concerned.
“It let’s him get first team games with a good side- and hopefully he will come back here fresh and raring to go.”
Gnohere stands at 6ft and is known for his strength in the tackle and his confidence on the ball which should bolster the R’s rearguard. He has also played in midfield and on the left side of defence or midfield. A warm welcome to the Frenchman who will undoubtedly look to make his mark at Loftus Road during his time with the club.
