Barry Hayles has today held talks with Leicester City about a possible move to the Walkers Stadium after being released from Fulham this summer.
32-year old Hayles boasted an impressive scoring record since his £2.5 million move from Bristol Rovers to West London but was not offered a new contract by Chris Coleman. He was left feeling "let down" by the club and has now set his sights on securing a deal with a new club and achieving as much as possible in what should be his last seasons in football.
Rangers, Leeds, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are all interested in the striker and now Mickey Adams’ Leicester have joined the race.
Adams signed veteran striker Dion Dublin last week and despite already having R’s legend Les Ferdinand in his ranks feels he needs to strengthen after the departure of Paul Dickov to Blackburn.
Ian Holloway last week spoke of his desire to team up with Hayles again after there spell together at Bristol and admitted the R’s are in the hunt (reported by QPR MAD last week).
The Hoops boss also told of his hope to strengthen all areas of the squad as the club begins its preparations to battle it out in the 1st division.
Craig Holloway, released by Arsenal last week is a target for Ollie. Holloway was on trial at Loftus Road last season but for Lee Camp’s excellence in the Rangers goal was not signed. He is now available on a free transfer and with any move for Camp in the near future unlikely it is thought that Ollie may bring Holloway back for a second trial.
R’s target Kevin Watson who has been released by Reading looks likely to sign a deal at Colchester United. Watson, a courageous midfield player, was looked upon as a possible to step into the heart of the R’s midfield. He is proven at this level after successful spells at Rotherham United and the Royals but Phil Parkinson moved quickest to sign him at Colchester.
With no more news on Lee Cook and Micah Hyde from Rangers or Watford it is only suggested that both are in negotiations with the club about personal terms. Cook and Hyde have both rejected new deals at Vicarage Road and both are targets of Holloway’s.
On the defensive front, a return from injury for Danny Shittu has been earmarked for early October. Shittu injured his cruciate ligaments away at Bournemouth on 24th January. 9 months out of the game was the verdict by doctors but Shittu has been making significant progress in his fight for fitness and may return early if given the go ahead by the Rangers medical team.
Elsewhere; Matthew Rose, Richard Johnson and Richard Edghill, all offered one year deals after there current contracts expired are still mulling over other offers.
All three have received offers from Swansea and former assistant Kenny Jackett. But like Paul Furlong all three are expected to reject and sign at Rangers. Only minor problems over personal details have stopped the trio from signing.
Rangers will return to pre-season training on July 1st with a new assistant manager. QPR MAD cannot reveal the identity of the new assistant manager yet but there will be a new face beside Holloway. The individual has asked not for his identity to be publicised until he and his family are ready. QPR MAD will bring you the news on the new right-hand man as soon as we are informed by the individual.
