Watford manager Ray Lewington has told the club’s official website that he is quietly confident that the Hornets can seal a deal that will secure the future of Rangers target Lee Cook.
Cook has been in talks with Rangers since the end of last season about a possible move to West London and the side he and his family follows. QPR MAD revealed that a deal had almost been reached with the player’s representatives and Rangers that will see him joining once an agreement had been made with Watford over a compensation fee.
Following long negotiations and unsuccessful talks between the two clubs, the fee now looks set to be decided by a tribunal with the estimated amount to be in the region of £100,000.
The former Aylesbury player (21) is eager for an agreement to be reached for him to join his number one choice- Rangers, BUT Lewington claims that following an improved offer, Cook may think twice about a move away.
"At the start of the summer I wasn’t very optimistic about Lee staying. A few offers came in for him and he was in talks about a move away.
"Since then we have spoken with Lee and offered him an excellent offer at times when the financial situation at the club has been a strain.
"Now I am confident Lee will see how much he means to the club and sign for us."
QPR MAD also revealed that Lewington had bombarded the player with telephone calls urging him to think again and sign for the Hornets after returning from his summer holiday.
We also understand that Cook is still keen on signing for the R’s as long as everything goes to plan, concerning the fee. The player is thought to be getting very anxious that no deal has been brokered and is becoming slowly impatient regarding his future.
We shall bring you the latest developments from the Lee Cook saga as soon as we hear it here at QPR MAD.
