Makin to Rangers?

Rangers boss Ian Holloway is looking to hijack a deal to sign Ipswich Town defender Chris Makin on a Bosman free transfer.

Makin is out-of-contract and last week rejected a new deal offered to him at Portman Road. Tractor Boys manager Joe Royle is expecting the right-back in for a meeting next week regarding his future at the club but Ollie is looking to swoop for the 31-year old former Sunderland man.

Makin can play as left, right or centre back and despite being relatively small at 5ft 9 is very accomplished wherever he plays, offering stability, fight and a good eye for a pass.

He was highly rated while at the Black Cats, winning many supporters and was also honoured with the captaincy for one year until a lack of discipline on the training ground cost him his place at the club.

Ipswich soon stepped in and signed the player after a few trials elsewhere resulted in nothing. Makin was a regular in Ipswich’s playoff season this term and has now stalled on a new deal following Ollie’s interest.

Rangers are searching the transfer market for defenders following the departures of Steve Palmer, Terrell Forbes and Clarke Carlisle.

Robbie Stockdale has also attracted interest from the Rangers manager as he continues his search.
