McPhee bid ruled out

Paladini made no secret of his desire to bring McPhee to Loftus Road after finishing second top scorer in the 2nd division last season but it seems money problems will rule out any move for the Portuguese bound Valiant.

The Scot is out of contract this summer but because he is under 24 years of age Vale can demand a transfer fee as compensation if McPhee moves to another British club. If the two clubs cannot agree on a price the fee will be settled by a tribunal.

Leeds and Bristol City were also said to be interested but the player apparently favours a move abroad. Portuguese club Beira Mar, managed by Mick Wadsworth are the favourites to sign the player and they will not be required to pay any money in compensation.

Rangers Chief Executive David Davies was adamant there were other priorities for the R’s.

He said: "We already have Kevin Gallen, Tony Thorpe and Jamie Cureton who can perform similar roles."

Rangers also ruled out any move for veteran players Tim Sherwood and Brian Deane despite looking for a centre-half and forward to boost there survival hopes in the 1st division next season. Boss Ian Holloway said he is not interested in either player and is still in the hunt for a replacement for Clarke Carlisle.
