Ollie eyes up Hayles

Ian Holloway is hoping he will be able to persuade old boy Barry Hayles make the short move to Rangers from Fulham after being released this summer.

Hayles will have to make a big pay-cut from his £8,000 a week wages to join old mentor Holloway at Loftus Road and Ollie is eager to sign a player being touted by many clubs.

Holloway said, "Maybe we can work something related to bonuses. But nobody is going to put QPR into the awful financial position we were in a couple of years ago - no matter how good the player."

In 1998 when Holloway managed Bristol Rovers he sold Hayles to Fulham for a club record £2million and met the 32-year old striker lastnight for talks about a possible reunion. A host of 1st division clubs including Leeds and a few Premiership teams are monitoring Hayles’ position.

Clarke Carlisle is one player who is on his way to Leeds United this summer. New Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell made him his second summer signing. Clarke’s future had been up in the air since the final game at Sheffield Wednesday. Although offered a new contract Carlisle received a telephone call while on holiday about a possible move to Elland Road. The deal has now been sealed and Carlisle is said to be "over the moon" about a return to the North where he had left his partner and child.

Despite being offered more money, David Davies said that a return North to be close to his family was always on the cards.

"In the end we thought it was the best decision for Clarke. His attitude was such that although we did all we could to keep him, he was certain returning north was the answer."

The 24-year old central defender made 107 appearances since he was signed from Blackpool in 2000, scoring six times.
