QPR close in on Campbell

Barclays Premier League new boys Rangers have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old this summer, reportedly offering £1.25million.

"The club have had a bid for Blackpool striker DJ Campbell accepted by the Seasiders," said a statement on their official website, www.qpr.co.uk.

"The Tangerines frontman, who scored 13 goals in 31 appearances in the Barclays Premier League last season, will now discuss personal terms with the Rs over the coming days, ahead of a potential move to Loftus Road."

Rangers are said to have triggered a release clause in Campbell's Blackpool contract, which had a year left to run, with the option of a further 12 months.

The forward, who has also played for Birmingham and Leicester, would become QPR boss Neil Warnock's fourth summer signing, following Jay Bothroyd, Kieron Dyer and Danny Gabbidon.

Campbell joined Blackpool following their promotion last summer but, despite the club making a flying start to their first top-flight season since 1971, they were relegated on a dramatic final day of the campaign.

They swapped places with QPR, who won the npower Championship to return to the Premier League for the first time since 1996.
