The Essex club has now claimed the scalps of Bristol Rovers, Swansea, and Luton Town to progress to the Area Final.
The loss had left the Rangers side shell-shocked. And after the game, according Rangers ‘keeper Chris Day, the players felt like they had let down more than themselves with only their sixth defeat of the season.
“We all felt pretty numb after the game. We know we let ourselves down.
“Letting yourself down is hard enough but those two thousand odd fans who turned up to support us, and who support us every week – it’s them that we feel we let down most.
“We didn’t do ourselves justice.”
And following last night’s defeat, the players were called to the training ground this morning to go over the video of the game.
And by clearing the air today, according to Day, will mean that the team can arrive fresh at training on Thursday without the cloud of last night defeat hanging over their heads.
“This morning we all met at the training ground and Ollie and Kenny went through the video. It wasn’t punishment – it was a chance to sit down and clear the air.”
“Ollie and Kenny went through where we went wrong, and we all got a chance to talk about the game.
“Usually we do that after the first session back after a game, but by getting it out of the way today – we can now just focus on the Bournemouth game.”
“All the players were disappointed with our performance last night. But today we got to sit down as a group and refocus on the road ahead – we all know what we want to get out of this season, and last night gave us a good kick in the pants.”
