QPR progressed to the third round of the LDV Vans Trophy Southern Section after a 2-1 win against a determined Dagenham & Redbridge side.
The Daggers fielded 3 ex-rangers while the R's made 6 changes from the side who beat Stockport on Saturday.
It was enough for the R's as a goal in each half from Gino Padula and Kevin McLeod saw victory for Rangers despite a spirited performance from the Conference side.
Tony Scully (one of the former Rangers on display) did net a consolation goal for Dagenham but it was too late and the result their attacking flair deserved was not to be.
QPR continued their recent turn-around of success with a second win in a week.
Gino Padula opened the scoring with a corner that sailed over Tony Roberts head and Kevin McLeod doubled the lead on 82 minutes with a neat move involving Gareth Ainsworth.
Manager Ian Holloway was pleased with his side's victory despite a poor home crowd of only just over 3,000.
It was a night of reunions, with Tony Roberts showing why Ian Holloway rates him so highly as Rangers goalkeeping coach – putting in a top class performance in the Daggers goal.
And overall Ollie was happy with the way his team went about progressing their cup campaign, and most importantly continuing to get results.
“Attitude very good. Work rate very good. It could have been better football – but we got our two goals and that was enough. Some QPR teams of the past may not have been up for that challenge, but the lads got stuck in and came away with a result.”
Gareth Ainsworth was a surprise selection in attack, partnering Richard Pacquette. However it was a decision that paid off, setting up Rangers second goal, and providing real pace, and options up front.
“Gareth said he’s played there once or twice and he’s got a lot of pace. He’s brave as a Lion and gives me more options up front, which may become very important throughout the season.
“Whether our first goal was in or not I don’t know. I’ll have to wait till I see the tape. But when I came here the set pieces where awful, and now we’ve got a bit of sting.
“We’ve worked hard to get organised, and I think that is what’s important.”
