The Nigeria defender has left Millwall to sign a deal with Rangers until the end of the season.
Shittu, who made 182 appearances during a five-year spell at Loftus Road between 2001 and 2006, said: "I'm excited and emotional to be back here.
"Everyone knows this is my home. I've got a lot of friends here and the fans know how I feel about them.
"I've been through a lot of highs and lows at QPR, but the place is buzzing at the moment and I can't wait to pull on the Rangers shirt and give my all."
