Jimmy Smith could make his QPR debut at Southampton after joining on a month's loan from Chelsea.
The 19-year-old midfielder was boss John Gregory's first signing since his arrival at Loftus Road, and Smith goes straight into the squad for the trip to St Mary's.
He could be forced to settle for a place on the bench, though, as the midfield quartet of Lee Cook, Marc Bircham, Stefan Bailey and Martin Rowlands worked well in last weekend's 2-0 win over Hull.
Gareth Ainsworth could recover from a hamstring problem in time to play, and fellow midfielder Egutu Oliseh could also be in contention after shaking off a similar injury.
But forwards Kevin Gallen (back), Marc Nygaard (hamstring) and Paul Furlong (thigh) are all likely to miss the game along with Dominic Shimmin (hamstring).
Southampton playmaker Inigo Idiakez is a major doubt for Saturday's clash.
The Spaniard has been feeling a tight hamstring and has not trained all week, meaning manager George Burley could be forced into a reshuffle.
Jermaine Wright, who has been filling in at right-back, could return to the midfield with either Alexander Ostlund coming back in or Chris Makin switching flanks.
Teenager Gareth Bale, who was rested for last week's win at Burnley, should return at left-back.
Czech midfielder Mario Licka is in line for a place on the bench as he continues to build up his fitness following a foot injury but Darren Powell (knee), Claus Lundekvam and David Prutton (both ankle) are all missing.
