The Harry Redknapp Effect

Despite being in the crowd during the game at Old Trafford, the announcement of the new manager could not prevent QPR from defeat at Manchester United.

But the situation at QPR is one that Harry Redknapp is more than familiar with.

The job at QPR sees Redknapp, for the fourth time in a row, take charge of a team that is in the bottom three with spells at Portsmouth, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton

Redknapp took Portsmouth to safety and steered them to glory in the FA Cup. He was not able to save Southampton but his time at Tottenham was a successful one. Redknapp took over from Juande Ramos and took Spurs to the next level. Redknapp took Spurs to the quarter final of the Champions League and are now recognised as a top six club, but Redknapp was cruelly sacked in the summer.

The qualities that Redknapp has could steer QPR to safety. Redknapp?s ability to get the best out of his players consistently is his true asset. At home, QPR will play attacking football. But away from home, Redknapp is clever and will set his team up to be hard to beat but will counter attack with pace.

Another quality is that Redknapp will be very astute in the transfer market. He will not be afraid of getting rid of players that are not helping the cause and will bring in players that will improve the squad. It is very likely that he will go back to raid his old club Spurs.

With Redknapp?s first game under his belt away to Sunderland, a 0-0 draw is a good start. First thing Reknapp had to do was tighten the defence with QPR having the second worst defence in the league The next stage will be for QPR to start scoring goals. The joint lowest scorers have Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson injured, so a lot relies on the erratic Djibril Cisse.

One thing for sure, with 14 games of the season gone already and having not picked up a win all season, this has to be Harry Redknapps toughest job yet.
