The Rangers squad maybe about to discover a certain sense or deja vu after their trip to Scotland is not as straightforward as they might have imagined. If the players were expecting nothing more than standard football sessions around two friendlies this week, then that illusion has been shattered thanks to Fitness Coach Scott Rushton and the team at RAF Kinloss.
Instead, Ian Holloway's men are 'enjoying' 6.30am starts, punishing training courses and team building sessions - all to give them the best possible preparation for the rigours of the new season ahead.
Last season the squad travelled to another RAF base to be put through some gruelling training and fitness regimes designed to boost morale, performance and shape of the players.
The entire programme has been prepared in minute detail by physical fitness experts and although the players may not realise it yet (particularly when the 5.30 alarm goes off!) these sessions will help get the squad in to tip top condition.
So far, the players have taken part in an aqua-aerobics session, running on the beach, and RAF assault course as well as standard football sessions.
Bonding is to the fore of course and Ian Holloway - a great believer in the team ethic - reckons that his players can only benefit from their week North of the Border.
Talking to the official website he said:
"The team structure is vital and all my players must put the team before themselves. They did it last year and hopefully it will continue. Now, any new players need to buy in to that as well.
"The facilities here are fantastic and we are having a great time. Everything we need is here and they've made us feel very welcome."
