Ian Holloway had to watch the last 10 minutes of the game from the stands after receiving his marching orders, but he remained satisfied with Rangers' night on the Wirral and a well-earned point.
Tranmere missed a retaken penalty and Lee Camp produced a number of outstanding saves to ensure the visitors left with a share of the spoils.
But Ollie was just as pleased with the team effort on a night that was never going to be easy.
He said: "Our lads showed tremendous grit to get a point and our keeper produced some stunning saves.
"If we had shown that on Saturday I don't think we would have been beaten.
"QPR have been associated with the beautiful game, but we have to play the ugly game, the beautiful game, or whatever it takes.
"It's not pretty football that gets you promotion, it's about getting the ball in behind teams."
But although Ollie was pleased with his team, the referee incurred nothing but displeasure from the Rangers Boss.
The red card for Marcus Bignot, followed by his own dismissal after a confrontation with the assistant referee, was just the icing on the cake for the Gaffer after what he felt was a frustrating display from the match official.
He said: "I'm incensed. It's about fairness and justice and these are the guys that are supposed to be dishing it out.
"My lad didn't deserve that and they didn't deserve for that to be a penalty. But justice was done in the end."
