Queens Park Rangers believe they will succeed with a second bid to sign Les Ferdinand in the New Year.

Manager Ian Holloway failed with an offer to bring the 37-year-old striker back to the club on loan last month because of an injury crisis at Bolton. But now he is hoping to sign him on a permanent deal.

Ferdinand, who scored 93 goals in eight years at Loftus Road, is understood to be increasingly frustrated at the Reebok Stadium. He has started only two games this season and has to endure long journeys to the north-west from his home in the south.

Chairman Bill Power said: "We need a striker and Les fits the bill."
