A virtuoso performance by Rangers midfielder Richard Langley put his side one step closer to the play-offs with a brilliant performance in a hard fought game.
Langley scored a hat-trick but his side could have won by more had a goal from former Blackpool loan defender Danny Shittu not been ruled out for pushing on the goalkeeper.
The home side had come closest with a shot from Martin Bullock which Langley cleared off the line before Rangers took the lead on 35 minutes.
A controversial free-kick on the edge of the area was slammed home by Langley whose excitement got the better of him as he tore off his shirt to celebrate.
Moments after the break it could have been two when a scramble in the Blackpool penalty area saw a brilliant save from Phil Barnes and a Shittu header hit the post before the goalmouth scramble became a punch-up.
Former Blackpool man Clark Carlisle and Mike Flynn were booked as referee Mr Bates attempted to restore order.
Rangers were hanging on to their lead for the next 20 minutes and Scott Taylor should have done much better for the Seasiders when played through on 59 minutes but his shot went straight at Chris Day.
Five minutes later the lead was doubled when Langley hit a superb right-foot shot from the edge of the area which left Barnes with no chance.
Langley completed a well earned hat-trick with a bullet header five minutes from time after a cross from debutant Kevin McLeod.
Seasiders boss Steve McMahon saw Taylor grab a late consolation goal but said afterwards: "We ran out of bodies. While we were suffering injuries they were able to bring two or three loan players into an already strong squad.
"I'm now planning for next season and I have decided which players are going to be staying and which will be going." Rangers boss Ian Holloway said: "With the way the other results have gone we needed a result today.
"We're still focussed on trying to catch the teams above us so we needed a big performance today and we gave it."
