Nine-man Luton Town hung on for a 0-0 draw against a dismal QPR side and even almost snatched victory at the death.

Luton lost top scorer Steven Howard in the 14th minute for as reckless late challenge and captain Kevin Nicholls followed him into the changing room after 50 minutes for a second bookable offence.

But the visitors rarely threatened to take advantage off their numerical superiority and QPR fans vented their frustration with chants of 'what a load of rubbish.' The Loftus Road club is now without a win from eight games, a run that includes the 0-0 draw with part-timers Vauxhall Motors in the FA Cup.

Luton, willed on by a sell-out Kenilworth Road crowd, went close two minutes later when Simon Royce palmed away Chris Coyne's shot.

Croatian midfielder Ahmet Brkovic then volleyed wide from the edge of the area, before Howard was sent off.

Nicholls received his marching orders five minutes into the second half when he hauled down Oliver Burgess after a clumsy stumble.

Calum Willock volleyed wide after 75 minutes after Berthelin had pushed out a Williams cross.

The home keeper then turned behind a low shot from substitute Paul Furlong after another Williams cross.

Luton substitute Andrew Fotiadis could then twice have snatched a dramatic victory for his team in the last six minutes.

First, he had a side-foot shot saved by Royce and then lost his footing with only the keeper to beat
