Andy Gray helped Sheffield United secure their third successive victory with the only goal of the game at QPR.
The Blades striker headed in on 16 minutes to help the visitors claim another three points in a battling display that also brought their third clean sheet on the trot.
But they were fortunate not to concede as QPR wasted a host of superb chances to get themselves an equaliser and claim something from the game.
United deservedly took the lead when Jon Harley acrobatically redirected Leigh Bromby's deep cross back into the danger area and Gray arrived at pace to power his effort into the top corner of the net from ten yards.
Harley could have added a second for the Yorkshire outfit early in the second half but missed the target from close range, while QPR keeper Chris Day produced a smart save to deny Ashley Ward.
Apart from that, though, Neil Warnock's side struggled to create clear opportunities, while Rangers squandered time after time.
Before the break Marcus Bean missed with a free header at the far post, while Jamie Cureton's fizzing 25-yard half-volley fizzed just over the bar.
Lee Cook then rattled the woodwork with a shot from similar distance and the home side stepped up their efforts in the second half.
But it was still to no avail as Georges Santos managed to stop team-mate Kevin Gallen's goalbound shot from finding the net and Cureton somehow failed to connect with a powerful cross from Martin Rowlands.
And despite a frantic finish there was still no way through the resolute United defence as QPR suffered their third home league game without a victory this season.
